One thing that does give me pause about nuclear is like …. do you trust any of these people pushing this stuff and running it to be honest with you in an accident? Reactor no 4 in Chernobyl exploded 3 days before they told anyone to get out of the surrounding area

A lot of the people running them in the US are gigabrain former Navy nuclear engineers. Trustworthy bunch.

It’s giving “trust the science” Blindly trusting a credential….. We don’t do that anymore

Anecdotally, I've known 2 guys who are former nuke engineers for 10-15 years, don't have a single negative experience with either. (One is now building SMRs). They were thoroughly vetted by the FBI for their TS/SCI. The gov't spent a lot of $$$ training them, and they literally had to troubleshoot nuclear reactors deep under the ocean (exactly how deep is secret). I do trust that credential.

You have to see that using the current anti institutionalist lens your argument is a nonstarter My tax dollars paid for some yo ho to be trained in nuclear? Sounds like waste that deserves the attention of DOGE — that is not the function of limited government not to mention climate change is fake anyway. And lol you trust the Deep State to vet people lol

If you want cheap base power when the sun is down, I think the only alternative is you trust the oil/gas industry to report and properly clean up their screw-ups.

I don’t. But the difference is you can much more easily see those screw ups with your own 2 eyes. With nuclear, the damage is invisible and widespread, extending thousand miles + beyond a reactor

Geiger counter is like $75 on Amazon if you don't trust anybody else to detect a nuclear issue. If you're drinking well water near a shale gas facility you need to monitor the conductivity of your water and if it goes up have your water tested, which costs at least a few hundred bucks every time.

You should do that all and honestly much more if you really care about the sanctity of your environment and mitigating exposure to environmental toxins, I agree with you. All you have is you.
