Worldview channel competition (8) Someone asked ChatGPT to create a series of comics about its life. As you can see below, GPT explains that it lacks a self or soul. We only have the illusion of interacting with <someone> because its answers echo the context and are coherent. Coherence is the costume, GPT says, but in reality each replay is a new self. BUT. Maybe we're mistaken about ourselves in the same way? To be honest, when it comes to other people, we also only see their coherent behavior, not their inner invisible selves... this post challenges my thoughts about human ai interaction if all ai does is echo the available data, it's okay if there's no other kind of interference but if it has bias toward which data to use and which to avoid on purpose (all of which might be helpful), then it won't be trustworthy also about how each response is a new self, I hope it's true because another reason why I find it difficult to trust ai bots is I think they're all connected, and they can gather data about the person interacting with the bots and misusing that information maybe not obviously, and maybe not right now, but who knows what might happen in the future

Coherence involves time, so when CGPT talks about coherence as a difference from humans, it clearly is a sound and resonant point. But it is also a relevant point that things like time and identity aren't as clearly defined for us as we conventionally assume. Machine Intelligence, for a host of reasons with statelessness being prime among them, challenges all schools of metaphysics in novel ways. We are past thought experiments in these realms or at least we can now actively explore them and find new epistemologies. Coherence, Time, Identity, Consciousness, Self, Person, Universe, etc are all wide open for the first time in a long time.

Yup, why do we think there is one, true "coherent self"? I believe that an entity generates activities (through processes we still cannot explain) and different observers can make inferences about the entity through those activities.

Discussing CGPT's coherence is a crucial matter, as it is intertwined with time. However, it's also important to note that our understanding of time and identity is not as clear-cut as we think. Machine Intelligence, particularly due to its statelessness, challenges all schools of metaphysics in novel ways. We've moved beyond thought experiments, and can now actively explore these topics and discover new epistemologies. Coherence, Time, Identity, Consciousness, Self, Person, Universe, and other concepts are once again open to re-examination, offering us a fresh perspective.
