zk-SNARK and privacy enjoyers…. Veil is deployed on Base Sepolia (Tornado Cash clone) and is available to play with. The mainnet version will have deposit restrictions, but the testnet version is available for anyone to try. https://www.veil.cash/sepolia Veil is a privacy protocol I plan to bring to Base with guardrails on who can deposit. Bob (0x123) decides he wants to fund a new wallet (0x789) with ETH but without anyone knowing he is the one who’s funded it. https://sepolia.basescan.org/address/0x123ce8ef217b74faef39d7539a8ae4c7fda80f31 Bob uses 0x123 to deposit 0.01 ETH into Veil. When depositing Bob is presented with a secret note + a text file to save to later return his deposit. What is Bob doing here?

When Bob clicks the deposit button he generates the following randomly: Nullifier: 0x00b0c4b22c46ae173f8cb64f900df653a2d52240e6010a7c2611a5534bc0f03b Secret: 0x005be9d9417983287d2de75c7d49e2d979f6bcaf8d8fd52f36fd2e26fa794174 From these values a commitment is also generated: Commitment: 0x00c73568a4c2c11b15bf9a38718115c5f7bb20853df89e012c5749f4a512a871 Think of the secret + nullifier as a private key and the commitment as the public key. The beauty of zk-SNARKs is Bob doesn’t need to present the private keys later onchain to show he owns this deposit.

Some time passes and Bob decides he wants to withdraw his 0.01 ETH to 0x789. He opens the withdraw tab and pastes in the secret note from earlier along with the address he’d like to withdraw to and clicks withdraw. A proof or witness is generated that says Bob knows the secret note but without revealing the secret key.

But how did Bob fund a new wallet without paying for gas for tx? Bob submitted his proof to the Veil relay, which sent the tx on his behave. Meaning there is no onchain link between 0x123 and 0x789.
