I don’t know if you’re aware, but there’s a whole movement called positive psychology that advocates capitalizing on strengths, rather than addressing weaknesses (simplifying). I’ve used the CliftonStrengths framework to great effect before, which is rooted in that theory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_psychology

Personally, prefer to focus on strengths , It makes me feel better , more effective and to be honest, easier than work on weaknesses , just like weak muscles training suffers

I’m adding up instead of giving an answer. What if your strengths are just a Dunning-Kruger effect? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect

Depends if you envision yourself as a generalist or a specialist.

the optimal course of action is to say screw it and do neither.

Id say for most people building up a clear strength would be more beneficial. Clear strengths are more valuable than a lack of obvious weaknesses. But once you have one or two clear strengths, focus on weaknesses as you can easily get blinded into thinking everything is a nail when your strength is a hammer.

Strength. Build a team around you covers your weakness. I do this IRL too with friends. I’m never afraid to ask them for help. I also try to be honest about why I’m asking and I’m always amazed at how generous they are with their time and responses. People also like it when you notice things they are good at.

I think you get stronger by working on your weaknesses imo. Always growing and not being complacent is super important.
