Total learning moment for me: old Land Rovers don’t like aftermarket parts. I’ve only really worked on older BMWs until embarking on my Rover rebuild. I’ve ordered OEM parts and aftermarket parts that have worked flawlessly. I decided to get an aftermarket Air Sensor and save a decent chunk of money. Got it today, put it in, and…nothing. The Rover doesn’t like it. So, I found a great used parts site on the east coast that I’ll be using from here on out. New part is coming in by EOW 🤞

When life gives you so many lemons that they rot before you can use them… give ‘em out for free for the whole neighborhood to enjoy. And yes, my radiator has a crack in it 🙃

Build update: she is running! Got the engine back together, bled the fuel line, bled the coolant, NO leaks, engine temp stays at 174° F - my mass air flow sensor is bad so waiting on that part. Went to a local pick-n-pull this morning for a new alternator (that does not fit the current belt), misc interior parts, and misc bolts. Will have more of an update new week. 🫡

Criticism kills dreams more than confidence. I’ve been listening to Articulating Design Decisions by Tom Greever on the drive to the office. One big take away: the best communicator wins, not the best design. Highly recommend this to anyone who has to communicate to stakeholders - good “old school” values for product design.

Heads are on, exhaust manifold on the right is bolted in, I forgot that one of the head bolts on the left was a pain to get out and got stripped during tear down so project is on hold until next weekend when the replacement part comes in. I rolled my push rods - they are all straight and in good condition so no need to replace those. It’s important to dip your head bolts in oil and use anti-seize on parts that will get high temp. The cardboard method I did during disassembly is a game changer. So far, part 2 is going well. Time for a beer and some billiards. 🍻

Heads and rockers are back from Larry’s ☕️ So far, the build cost of replacing the head gaskets on my 96 Rover has been: $133.28 - new components and gaskets from Atlantic British $223.60 - heads cleaned and surfaced ~$100 - misc parts and beer Total: $456.88 I’m up to over 5 weeks of build time but that beats paying $4,000 for someone to molest my car 🤘

This is pretty cool - Jeep is building in public. A survey was leaked that Jeep sent out asking dealerships (wish they asked owners) about design options for the new gladiator. Honestly, Stellantis has gotten a bad rap but they have stayed true to the Jeep heritage. The 12th generation v6 is pretty solid at this point and they do output the best off-the-lot 4x4s. Their sales have been down a ton year after year since the JL was released but it’s nice to see them starting to take a step back and hear from enthusiasts.

This gem came up in my photos - crashed my e34 525i in 2019. I bought this car off an old lady for $1k. Schwartz Black 5-spd manual and put staggered style 32s on it. Miss this car so much! Ended up selling it for $1k to a guy for parts 🥲
