think it’s just hard to be a guinea pig for someone else’s career growth when as a result it’ll likely hinder yours.

I've noticed this is a huge problem in academia and in hard tech startups mainly founded by academics. 

99% of my friends who got PhDs had horrific experiences because PIs aren't really trained to manage people. It's so cut throat. Then when PIs become managers at startups their direct reports can really suffer.

Problem with this is 90% of crypto folks have never managed another human
