Sonos CEO is ousted following one of the worst software debacles of all time. They shipped a new app last year. It was practically unusable. They refused to roll back. Customers were outraged. (Check Twitter search for amusement) This article claims they were so committed to their new app bc of new headphones but I read elsewhere it had more to do with trying to enable a subscription model to tap recurring revenue. And they moved a lot of the app to the cloud instead of the edge. Stupid stupid stupid. As a Sonos user I can attest to how unusable the new app has been. I don’t know if new leadership will be able to fix the damage. https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/13/24342179/sonos-ceo-patrick-spence-resignation-reason-app

was insane when they released a new app a few years ago and said they wouldn't support legacy products anymore... they backtracked on that in less than 48 hours, but still was ridiculous

doesn’t surprise me. I’ve always really disliked sonos’ approach to building software, imo it has tried to be slick like Apple except it never works and is full of weird incompatibilities e.g. I bought one of their soundbars 5+ years ago and it only supported dolby audio, not DTS. anything with the latter (roughly 40-50% of movies) would sound weird.
