trying something new this week (scary!). the first seven sentences on warpcast, the rest in paragraph. ### most romantics will ask the question “what is your perfect sunday?” because they saw some version of it in the New York Times’ The 36 Questions That Lead to Love or because it caught their eye in Hinge’s automated written prompts or maybe because that line from Hot Fuzz always makes them giggle. and most romantics will answer that very question with some idealized version of a seemingly glorious sabbath day. always idyllic, sometimes whimsical, but never practical. i, too, am a romantic. i, too, love to dream. but, for me, the perfect sunday isn’t one that can be dreamt up. the perfect sunday is the one you didn’t know you needed until that moment in bed, right before you close your eyes.

Even though this is ostensibly a tech-dominated platform at present there are quite a few people I have encountered on Farcaster who are knowledgeable about politics, history, and even literature and philosophy. I’m genuinely impressed and can often get a good sense of others knowledge because of the right-sized message limits that encourage complex expression without sacrificing concision. One thing I love about the internet is that if you use it right it’s actually like a crowdsourcing tool for having millions of mini-teachers giving lessons around the clock. You could probably create a decent magazine or other publication drawing from tech people who have bases of knowledge in other fields, particularly the humanities. Any worthwhile intellectual project for public consumption is usually a team effort on some level with everyone bringing a different set of strengths.

None of my intelligent (130+ IQ) friends use cryptocurrency regularly. They only use it selectively and rarely, e.g., at a conference or buying drugs, but almost never trade or invest in it spontaneously in their own time. This has been a long-term consistent observation, but today confirmation came. A new meta-analysis showed time spent holding cryptocurrency per day increases exponentially with lower IQ, with drop-off to near 0 days at 145+. Cryptocurrency is mostly appealing as a way to fill an otherwise vacant mind that has no interesting thoughts and minimal goal-directed behaviour. Intelligent people find stimulation from thinking about real-world problems and making a tangible difference to the world, not from speculating on volatile digital coins like some sort of day-trading lemming.
