a big upside of building in public. people get pulled to your journey. you get to build your community while building your thing. downside? none. people might steal the idea? if you let them steal it and outdo you, it is theirs anyway.

Execution matters more than the idea anyway - anyone can have ideas, not a lot can execute.

Do you think this applies to everything? I've been thinking about writing an e-learning course to help people lead product teams. And I've been thinking about building it in public like you suggest here, but I'm not sure how well that would work, or if it would actually be profitable. I wonder if anyone has tried.

building in the open is always more fun with an audience (speaking as someone that often times builds in the open w/o one) ๐Ÿ˜…

First time founders do seem to be overly concerned about folks "stealing their idea." Second time founders focus on distribution, execution, and learning from customers. Ideas aren't the barrier (maybe outside of deep/hard tech), execution is.

Agreed. While you are building in public, you are also creating countless opportunities for user feedback and potential collaborations which compound over timeโ€ฆ
