Trying to decide if I should: 1) stick with 1Password, which I’ve used for years with little to no issues, but which costs me money I don’t really need to spend considering 2&3 below 2) switch to ProtonPass which is included with my Proton subscription and features a nice email aliasing feature built in. 3) switch to Apple Passwords since I use Apple products pretty much exclusively, it would cost nothing, and would probably be fairly seamless in terms of UX Thoughts? Things I’ve overlooked? Pros/cons? All are very welcome 🙏

i'm close to ditching 1pass, the number of times it asks me to type my master password then pretending it didn't work is insufferable. browser extension barely works anymore

bitwarden only, support open software. their free plan is good enough for most needs, and you sleep tight knowing you have no lockin. i selfhost my own instance - i use Vaultwarden, which is a rust implementation - and it's among the easiest apps to selfhost in my experience. cryptonatives should lean into OSS.

I see no good reason to switch from 1Password, especially if it’s working for you. FWIW, I went through the same thinking and couldn’t come up with a good reason to switch.

general recommendation for security: Don't put everything in one basked. Means don't store password/2fa/passkeys all in the same pw manager db. advanced: get a couple of yubikeys for hardware security

Frankly, I’ve tried both proton pass and one password and I don’t know at least personally I’ve never been happier with the changes that I made going with strictly Apple for my passwords and stuff. Also with the iOS 18 update, I haven’t looked too heavily into it but they make it a lot easier for you to Find out where your passwords are and which ones are compromised or have been leaked and other fund stuff plus it’s backed up to the cloud.

Switched to ProtonPass and I love it. Also have considered using two pw services…Would not use apples pw thing after an a tweet I saw about how easy it could be for someone to gain access of everything if your iCloud got compromised. https://x.com/blader/status/1800263787746066646

Of all these I think Apple keychain is the best. It's free, compatible and in my experience it's been consistent.
