100% agree corollary: even if a startup open sourced literally ALL of their code, it would be almost impossible for another team to get it running

unless you are building a devtool the user cares ~0. but it has a big impact on other things... like whether other projects will integrate with you, build on top, etc. closed source infra is a form of counterparty risk. open source is a form of credible neutrality

Generally agree, but I can think of a certain specific category of applications/use cases this would actually be a critically important quality from user pov The reason being not some vague principle (like forkability) tho, but more for verification and accountability on the app itself I've been trying to evaluate if I should build one of these
