I think many engineers (and techies) tend to overrate how much people care whether something is open source or not

unless you are building a devtool the user cares ~0.
but it has a big impact on other things...
like whether other projects will integrate with you, build on top, etc.

closed source infra is a form of counterparty risk. open source is a form of credible neutrality
