I think about this often, one of my favourite poems: “so you want to be a writer” by Charles Bukowski. Unless it comes out of your soul like a rocket, unless being still would drive you to madness or suicide or murder, don’t do it.

I know people often say Stephen King's On Writing is the best book for writers. It's not even the best book for writers called 'On Writing'. Bukowski 'On Writing' has grit and flames and passion. It's a gift.

i like the vibe this poem gives me very much but i don‘t think this is how one should choose their work ethics to be in a practical sense it’s much like the georg martin vs stephen king interview: one waits for inspiration to strike and the other just sits down on his ass and starts writing i choose the latter

I recently heard interviews of Hitchcock, and David Lynch both complaining of extended writers blocks. I think almost all great writers encounter it at some point or another
