I think about this often, one of my favourite poems: “so you want to be a writer” by Charles Bukowski.

Unless it comes out of your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would drive you to madness or suicide or murder,
don’t do it.

I know people often say Stephen King's On Writing is the best book for writers. It's not even the best book for writers called 'On Writing'. Bukowski 'On Writing' has grit and flames and passion. It's a gift.
