Sol is a great execution layer, makes zero sense as a settlement layer running on bare-metal nodes rented at datacenters Excited for innovation the SVM will bring to Ethereum L2s like Eclipse next year.

So the argument is, because validation on Solana requires large amounts of compute, the entry requirements are too high for credible neutrality?

My concern is that this is too nuanced a point for any end users to actually care, which is what drives network success at the end of the day

It seems like large institutions might care a bit more about credible neutrality than retail (E.g. Coinbase and PayPal both launched their products on Ethereum) and the network effects from that might keep pulling retail in.

That’s true about the end of the day.. but maybe not the end of the month, year, or decade Lack of credible neutrality opens you up to network attacks and, imo, government attacks Ticking time bomb
