When I was in my twenties and was blindly chasing startup dreams, I didn't care about industry or mission or whether the whole thing made sense to me (or at all) in the first place Money and potential success were surely a part of it, but I think the main driver was challenging myself to grow and trying new things Now that I'm a dad, startup thinking and related world-changing aspirations are very far from my daily life and thoughts; whenever I read stuff like "if the dream isn't delusional, I don't want it" I just cringe and move on. I just want to do my job and enjoy my life, but that doesn't mean I'm not ambitious; I do have revenue and lifestyle goals, but these are now directly correlated to daily work and feel much less exponential than iterative When I look back on this, it can feel like I've given up, but the truth is that it wasn't even a shift: what I was doing back then was the product of unconscious drives, whereas now I have clear and conscious goals
