btw @vitalik.eth, what about the most basic of exploits - scammers going around the world, claiming they are from Worldcoin and using backdoored Orbs to scan people's eyes? If people ask, "Where's my airdrop" they'd respond, "It's going to take one business day to update our database and send the money".

Theoretically these orbs wouldn't work with the system?

That's the goal - they'd scan someone's iris and use it in malicious way

In order to fool me into scanning my iris first they'd need to insert their fake orb into worldcoin's database so that it's recognized by the worldcoin app.

To fool you - yes. To fool 50% of the world's population, no.

Because they didn't take the time to learn the minimum about the project from the official website and download the app? Sure, but people like that being fooled is not exclusive to the worldcoin case.

Yes but the downside of getting your iris scanned and used maliciously is bigger than from just losing some money to nigerian prince.

Agree. All we can do is try to educate people about the potential of new technologies (both positive and negative).

I'd love to try BrightID, but it's still not available in France.

Sorry about AppStore in France, the only country that restricts BrightID iOS because it uses a cryptographic library they do not like. Until the community has enough resources to rectify it (they're not VC funded and relies on Public Goods funding), only alternative for the French public is to use Android phone.

Yeah, as a froggy I was really in awe when I read that explanation of why I couldn't download it. Seems like it's a grade max weapon system...

Yeah, but it's wild if France is the only country in the world that doesn't allow it. Does the rest of the world don't care because they've figured out how to crack this encryption, and if so, why hasn't France figured it out? Does France know stuff nobody else is aware of? In any case, so much for human rights…

Couldn't say for sure what the specifics are. Again I'd like to defer to @adamstallard.eth who has intimate understanding of the BrightID codebases to answer the question.
