Maybe we could encourage people to cast more about what their bookish interests are and what kind of reader they are.

It may feel out off place because right now the focus is very much on the books themselves, but even recommendations can become more meaningful when you know who is behind the recommendation.

Hey I’m Picnic, co-host here along with the great and mighty @phil. I’m interested in great writing, doesn’t matter what it’s about.

Writers like Steinbeck, Le Guin, Whitman, Mandelbrot, Woolf, Bradbury, Mantel, Alexander. When I read a great writer, I get obsessed. I want to read everything they’ve written.

And not just dead writers, though to be fair most of the writers I mentioned are dead

Ok never mind all of the writers I mentioned are dead. I didn’t realize Mantel was 😭 I included her as a modern writer bc I’m *almost done* with the Wolf Hall trilogy, and it’s the most excellently written historical fiction

Do you have thoughts on why you would recommend Wolf Hall?
