Thanks for making my first week co-hosting the /books channel a welcoming one! So far, I’ve mostly been watching and thinking. I’m curious—this channel is already pretty great for book recommendations. What other bookish things would we like to happen here?

There is a real rift between children who can and who cannot read across their respective age groups. All kinds of socioeconomic stuff is going on there. Just getting books into a home doesn't make a difference. I do not have a solution, but this is often on my mind. How can we give everyone a fighting chance?

I like it. It just implies to play a very long game and hope that over generations it makes any difference. Matter of fact is that many of the least privileged parents do neither go to libraries nor read their children good night stories. These forms of poverty are not addressed with material things alone I am afraid.
