lack of good public material on selling secondaries is mindblowing to me

probably the last part of silicon valley culture that hasn't been democratized and made transparent by yc youtube videos

i wonder why people choose not to talk about them in public

(fyi this is not a rant, if anything im pro secondaries — just weird that it's rarely spoken publicly)

but i wish people entering the game knew that as well (eg myself few years back)

when you raise a round for your startup (lets say 10m series a on 50m val) you create additional shares that investors buy, but you personally don't see any of this money

sometimes during fundraising, vcs offer to buy founders shares instead of only the newly created ones, this is call buying secondaries

Maybe a dumb question but what exactly do you mean by selling secondaries?

When I was investigating it I also found the lack of info frustrating

i gained 99% of my startup knowledge from yc startup school back in the days and always overindexed on things that yc recommends but they rarely say publicly about secondaries
