I haven’t tried notcoin so I may be midcurving this one, but tapping a big app button repeatedly to earn a coin doesn’t sound fun to me. OTOH it sounds like preying on the desperation of people whose $/hr income is so low that they’re better off spending their time mindlessly farming a dumb token like automata

Yeah, I am sure that tokens will be everywhere, they are a great tool in many aspects. For example, this is similar to the loyalty point system that businesses use in marketing today, but much more and interesting.
