I have no idea what will happen to $XTZ or its ecosystem in the long term but I do know that some of the best art and creators I’ve seen in this space are there, and that the vast majority of the work released there is hosted on decentralized IPFS and that I’m going to keep enjoying and supporting that work.

For today’s #worthwhile share I’m going with this podcast to featuring the ever brilliant interviewee Magnus Resch on his latest book “How To Collect Art”. This wisdom applies to both trad art & NFTs. Buy what you love, expect no profit, be curious. https://pca.st/episode/727f8b75-de20-4dd3-8aa9-5fe11af50c3c

In keeping with the skull theme from my previous post, for today’s #admired cast I’ll share the finest skull I’ve seen all week. Just today in fact, when I visited the Frieze art fair. This is “Death’s Head Bronze” (2023) by Tom Sachs [enamel on bronze, Ed. of 5 + 3AP]

I'm somewhat of a connoisseur of @jjjjjohn Window Still Life tribute/derivative works. I love the originals and I think they provide a perfect base from which to riff with endless expressive permutations. For today's #collected post I'll share what remains my fav, from @wilyguys https://objkt.com/tokens/hicetnunc/72675

By that I mean it digs deep but no grad school required to pick up what's being put down. Don't get me wrong I love a good artist statement from Contemporary Art Daily but I think we need more serious arts writing that doesn't require a graduate degree to pick up what's being put down.

I've been to neither but I'm dying to see both and I can't say enough about the quality of this writing and the wonderful perspective on both works by the writer. It's one of the best examples from this year so far that I can think of quality middle-brow arts writing.

This piece re: the concept of "immersion" in art is very #worthwhile It compares the drastically different experiences of visiting the uber high-tech Sphere in Las Vegas & Michael Heizer's land art masterpiece City in the Nevada desert. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/11/20/the-sphere-and-our-immersion-complex

It reminds me of the maximumly forceful physical reaction of humans having encounters with angels in the play "Angels in America" (💦 ) which of you think about it not only makes sense but seems inevitable if you were actually to be in the presence of an omnipotent all-loving GOD who brought you to his crib 7x a day.

Bodily she's alone in chamber but on these angel-borne trips "she heard, with her bodily ears, the delightful harmonies of the celestial choirs." This woman is obviously blissed the F out..as one would be and is very likely experiencing some physical...sensations...to accompany it.

I'm not a particularly religious person but I find this so compelling. Depicted is Christ's follower Mary Magdalen in the period after his death when she lived out the rest of her life in relative solitude. Apparently she was taken 7x daily by angels into God's presence. We're seeing her in one of those moments.

For today's #admired I'm going with Mary Magdalen in Ecstasy (1606) by Caravaggio (oil on canvas). What an image. It's disputed whether or not this is an authentic Caravaggio or one of numerous copies from his followers but regardless I find its power and well...its erotic appeal undeniable.

This piece is an excellent reminder that we've been using "generative" systems to "code" work for both aesthetic & efficiency reasons for far longer than is often acknowledged. Its incorporation of a drawing program designed for the Amiga (cutting edge in its day, retro to us) = icing on the cake. So glad to have this.

The work was made with a variety of programs and implements, most notably a computer-assisted Jacquard loom (a woefully under-appreciated piece of early 19th century tech that allowed weavers to use punch cards to guide complex designs). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacquard_machine

OK for today's #collected piece I want to highlight a singular work from a singular artist: Personal Computer by @kris10roos Firstly, an animated woven computer is just a plainly arresting image. Each individual element is familiar, but compounded... https://objkt.com/tokens/KT1F25L66e678foshyNQN51Mnco9mMJnGo59/0

I really dug the look into the increasing gaps between sky high primary sales and bargain lots of fundamental lessons to be gleaned by artists basement secondary sales for a bunch of “high profile” works. Lots to be learned by artists & collectors of all levels here.

This podcast ep from Artnet’s The Art Angle was extremely #worthwhile - Art market analyst/reporter Katya Kazakina discussed her recent series of pieces about the fall of art prices in the wake of a speculative bubble. (Sound familiar?) https://youtu.be/m3MYsnIL7ts?si=N4Jteuiti84tsD2S
