alright, warpcast is reinstalled on my phone. we’re heads down on some product releases that are informed by a lot of our learnings over the past year. in the meantime, we are spending a lot of energy on performance and polish for the core experience. big year ahead :)

interesting that Qobuz, Tidal, Napster, and Apple Music all pay 3-10x more per stream than Spotify, yet hardly any normies who complain about shitty streaming artist fees use them. seems like Spotify’s discovery algo is the real deciding factor for consumers listening to music, not paying artists. revealed vs. stated preference. also worth noting that each of the competing platforms listed above offers higher audio quality than Spotify, ranging from lossless 44.1/16 all the way to 192/24. this also doesn’t seem to matter too much for the average listener.

Biggest takeaway from the last year is that I simply did not try enough things. I usually put off any ideas I had because I felt pressured to focus on "current thing I'm working on". @anoncast came from half a day of work on a Sunday and fully shifted my last two months. Going to try to spend more of my weekends experimenting outside of what I'm building day to day vs just continuing the grind. Who knows what might come out of it?

Why staking? Coop Records is a community owned record label. Our goal is to allow artists, collectors and fans to vote on what songs they want to see on the label, and which of those songs should be released as tokens on cooprecs.fun We use those tokens to fund our campaigns, which gets artists paid and allows us to onboard better music. Mint fees from collectible sales are used to buy back song tokens and fund future campaigns. We noticed a large number of people claiming rewards and immediately selling it - so we're hoping staking can be one of many ways that collectors hang onto their rewards for increased ownership and governance in the wider label. We're going to be putting a lot more love into how COOP works in the day to day ops of the product so stay tuned for more to come!
