plus the fact you can report a user with their handle and not just a specific content link means data isn't only not private but also readily available

How can they advertise that their messaging is secure and e2ee when you have to opt in, it’s not necessarily intuitive and you can’t even have e2ee group chats?? Ridiculous

It was bad documentation (you could even call it a lie). Telegram chats and group chats have never been private (only encrypted chats are, and they're not available on all clients).
