We purposely set fan tokens initially to be only bought or sold on farcaster. You must be a farcaster member to participate. That keeps it within the community. Some have asked us to open it up such that anyone can participate, in the theory that this will introduce more people to farcaster and the benefits of being a fan. We’re just listening to opinions at this point.

Why would someone buy a fan token /before/ they've on-boarded to farcaster? Seems likely the "interested, but not already here" market is too small to matter.

I think the actual question is if people are OK with a buy tax on fan tokens if the user doesn't have a moxie pass. The moxie pass is only issued to a verified address for a farcaster user. The user not having a moxie pass could be someone not on farcaster OR someone on farcaster who wants to buy fan tokens on an address they don't want to verify. This generally means less friction to buy fan tokens. In Rainbow moxie/fan token swaps, we currently have to check if an address has a moxie pass and we won't show a quote if they don't. Not ideal.
