what're your personal odds on whether AI will be monetized via ads or subs/usage in the future? I think for consumer apps it's almost impossible to get away from the superiority of the ad experience, unfortunately. Netflix is trending there too, fwiw

maybe wc can buck the trend here but ......... if they get scale, I assume we'll get ads. I mean, we'll DEFINITELY get ads, whether WC injects them or they come through other means (e.g. ~influencers)

I agree but I would tweak how you worded it. subscription *experience* is vastly superior, but cannot compete with free. most users willing to accept degraded experience in exchange for free product

Ads are inevitable for consumer AI, distribution is expensive, and the marginal cost per query still isn’t zero. Ads subsidize reach. That said, power users and niche apps will likely go the usage/sub route (like how Photoshop or Notion work)
