A personal favorite from /the-library "The Visual Display of Quantitative Information" by Edward R. Tufte (self-published 2nd edition) Standard work about statistical and data graphics, featuring: - an overview of the practice of the last two centuries, - providing a universal language and - tons of practical theory

I'm very interested in the field commonly labeled as "Information Design". It wasn't that widely known or in the focus of designers when I started out, compared to today. I learned a lot from this book for my design practice, about turning data into information, keeping integrity in the presentation or avoiding bias.

Tufte’s books are amazing. I was trying to find his article on the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster but found this instead: https://onlineethics.org/cases/representation-and-misrepresentation-tufte-and-morton-thiokol-engineers-challenger

From the classic series, by 'ET'. Years of research, and years of collecting - not only the most beautiful data visualisations - but some of the most compelling in terms of methodology. Edward Tuft sent me the full series, signed, after he found my old blog. I still use his words about it on my 'about' page. :)
