This observation maps really well to the U.S. political system (i.e. “Democrats are the evil party, and Republicans are the stupid party”) Question: do you think the tech forward approach suffers from the same failure modes as scapegoating? It stops working if too many people are aware of it as a release valve.

As a bigblocker that also lived through the Blocksize War I mostly agree with your take. For me the extreme censorship practiced by smallblockers was unacceptable. And seeing how LN fared out, with most users going through custodial services, I believe bigblockers were right.

Have you checked out the new Adaptive Blocksize Limit that just launched on BCH a couple weeks ago? Seems like a well thought out system based on moving averages. Maybe every "ecosystem stops embracing new technology" and "inevitably stagnates"? New tech feels dangerous for the old-tech-based elites. IMHO, the story you compiled was about convictions and perspectives. A social story. Tech solved some serious problems, too. We build, we imagine. We can imagine to stagnate, too.
