We dreamed of solving sharding. We wanted to have daily encrypted mempools. We have tried to reach for the sky and build a multidimensional gas market. Now it's 2024 and every third project is building an airdrop eligibility checker.

Shards are not secured by a multsig π jk aside, so it depends on the original vision and definition of sharding, but having a smooth cross-shards communication is something that rollups don't offer and LayerZero is just a patch for it.
