I love how friendly people in Argentina are to noobs trying to learn Spanish. If they notice that you "habla un poco" they speak more slowly, use individual English words as needed if you don't understand, but don't just give up and use English for the whole conversation. I wish people in more countries did this.

My Spanish in Honduras is terrible, where no one even tries to understand me or slow down. My Spanish this his summer in Categena, Colombia was pretty good! They are used to people trying and in that kind of environment, my Spanish is pretty good. My Spanish in Miami is excellent where I can just slip in English words, ie Spanglish, and it’s totally normal and everyone know what you are saying.

The counterpart to this, is that we (Argies) are too culturally attached to speaking Spanish in groups. This sometimes leads to the whole group defaulting to Spanish, and involuntarily outing someone who isn't deep into the language.

i spent 8 months in Argentina this year and when people asked me about it, I told people "it's like New York City if people were really warm and welcoming and invited you to play ⚽ with them". Argentinians have all been so incredible about being patient letting me practice my Spanish

I’ve experienced the same in Mexico, people are very friendly to us noobs, makes the whole language learning process much easier. In France on the other hand it’s a whole different story lol.

we call people with this kind of vibe 'warm-blooded.' It’s wild, but you can kinda tell just by the look of folks from certain countries
