Hamas has built an underground city under north Gaza and hides there (with the core below hospitals and schools).

Israelis understand now that Israel will never be safe with Hamas living alongside it.

Meanwhile Hamas is effectively telling citizens to remain in place as human shields over the tunnels

there are no good outcomes from any of this
