I really like the idea of charity coins. One risk that I immediately thought about: "Wouldn't memecoins do charitywashing by giving these institutions 5% of supply and then using it as an eternal pardon to do bad things just like some bad apples among effective altruists do?"

As much as memecoins may be annoying and disappointing, it’s important to acknowledge that we have built a system where anyone can create and issue their own form of money. That wasn’t possible before.

Making more interesting games vs more memecoins satisfies the fun component for sure - but part of the allure for memecoins lies in their utter simplicity. A hat, a frog, a dog - all extremely simplistic motifs to symbolize a range of emotions that can be painted on them by the buyer/seller/community participant.

If we had an additional internet layer in 3D (an internet-wide MMO, if you will), we could use meme coins to help pay for infrastructure and also reward players for spending time on the network. Anecdotally, my friends and I catch up during Fortnite matches...we all have phones but meet in cyberspace instead.

Hey Vitalik, remember when you met Kabosu in 2018? At @ownthedoge, we have celebrated Kabosu by building a statue of her in her home town, among many other things that help support her owner Atsuko. Our memecoin-DAO funds all sorts of things like this!

How about a token which in its face might look like a meme but has actually donated almost $500,000 to more than 20 different animal welfare organisations in 10 different countries all over the world? @pawthereum

It's been suggested to coin center that we make a coin just for the hell of it and this would be a fun way to crypto natively fund our work. The problem is that this coin would ultimately be a casino game. People would make and lose money on our tweets. Not something we want to encourage

The problem with memecoins as they currently exist is that there's a lot of information asymmetry and the market basically pays people to be good at trading, resulting in a few whales/traders making bank and most normal people buying the top. This sort of applies to altcoins in general too
