Do you think the absence is because of overengineering?
To me the main reason seems more around the rejection of crypto by big tech, browsers and merchants. Some adopted crypto payments then took them away (Steam, Stripe, OC etc). IMO if the market demanded a simpler widget, it would exist. So demand may just be gone.

I'm always wary of products that don't communicate their pricing upfront

Either you're free, or you have a subscription or volume based model

But book a demo or get started without any mention of that usually implies some absurd pricing

It only shows get started and contact sales, think more products just need to be upfront about their pricing and save everyone on both sides time and effort
