I understood how people were duped before social media, I partly grew up in Dubai and the standard practice for maids and construction workers to have their passports confiscated on arrival, and the first year or two is spent paying off their debt to the agent you got them the job But with information so freely available now, even in poorer communities, it is shocking that it keeps happening and people keep going despite it

Their governments hoed them so hard too. Other countries that send servants over their negotiated worker protections for their people. The East African countries did not ostensibly bc corrupt
