I don’t like how smartphones have become the One Ring to rule all physical devices. Almost prefer the clutter of physical remotes we used to have. Has anyone yet faced a situation where a device works fine but the manufacturer is out of business and the unmaintained app stops working on latest iOS/android?

I have a space heater with a little remote. But there's no holder on the space heater, so the remote lives in a junk drawer, probably. Without batteries, I hope.

i still yearn for my old iPod that had my purchased library physically stored on device and nothing else, no internet, no algorithms

I sort of have this with Sonos. They wanted to cancel the Play:1 speaker. People freaked out and it still works at the moment but will be dead soon.
