The older you get the more age becomes the first and main thing you notice about people, ahead of looks, brains, class markers, gender, race etc. I think it's partly because the older you get the more you realize the extent to which age is the primary explanation for a lot of stuff that you used to attribute to lots of other variables.

Feel like I started this habit very recently and I notice its easier to forgive something when age is the attribution

That and you can actually see age more clearly, something that didn't register for me until I got older.

I normally notice the clothes before the age.
