Anytime I see memes like this I think “worst kind of authoritarian” The right to be incompetent at adulting is the right that underwrites everything else. Ironically, fetishizing competence at independence skills is the mark of the mindless conformist. There’s more than one way to survive meaningfully.

Would you feel differently if the post proposed that these skills should be offered (but not mandatory)? I agree that we have a right to be incompetent, but it seems like the gov has an interest in assisting those who would seek competence.

I think educators and parents should be in an ongoing dialogue and actually govern education as they see fit and hash it out in PTA meetings etc. Memes like this are just political signaling with no relation to actual education practices. I’d be surprised if these memesters were deeply involved in actual education
