No that’s the wrong way to think of it. Old money wants to invest in everything same as new money. Alpha is alpha. Pension funds invest in VC and VC invests in crypto. The distinction is about social boundaries. Old money doesn’t want to socially mix with new. Even if it invests in it.

I'd add any group where the primary descriptor is location-based to this category. Silicon Valley for startups, Wall Street for finance, Savile Row for fashion, etc. etc.

All relics of a less connected, less dynamic world
