JD Vance is Trump's VP pick and the likely next Vice President. He strongly supports crypto. He voted for SAB121 repeal. He's a holder - owned $250k bitcoin 2022 - likely more now. He's slammed gensler in open letters. Further evidence that Trump white house is pro-crypto.

That's great if you're a single issue voter. It's not so great if you care about literally any other issues. I'd rather see my bags go to zero than have this guy in power.

I know you care about more than just one issue, and I know Bankless is a crypto centric podcast that aims to be politically neutral, but you also need to understand that by calling attention to Vance's pro-crypto stance without any mention of his other highly problematic views, you're effectively supporting his candidacy. I know you care about the threat of authoritarianism given your recent episode with Vitalik and Noah Smith, but it seems like you have a blind spot when it comes to American politicians with strong authoritarian tendencies as long as they like crypto.

Good take. You're right, I do care about more than one issue. The one thing I wish to preserve is classical liberalism - the one thing i wish to defeat is authoritarianism - crypto is a recent addition to the cannon of liberalism, and I unabashedly support it under the thesis - "if they adopt crypto protocols they adopt crypto values" So, an authoritarian that propagates crypto is better than an equal authoritarian that doesn't. However, I'd far prefer a candidate demonstrably less authoritarian overall, even if that candidate has a blind spot on crypto and hates it. Here's the challenge. I have no freaking idea which party/group is less authoritarian. My sources are polluted, I cannot be an expert in all domains. The domain I do have expertise in is crypto AND in crypto, many republican candidates have a more liberal approach than their democrat competitors. So what do? I state the candidates positions on crypto as clearly as possible on both sides and push them to be more pro-crypto. That's my lane.

This is what concerns me. Even though it may be inadvertent. Especially if the intention of @bankless is to stay generally politically neutral.
