Hi @danielletrussoni what kind of marketing do you do for your books, and is that something that you handle yourself or contract out?

I do most of my marketing myself. I’m a traditionally published author who has published seven books with random House , HarperCollins, and McMillan. Usually, these publishers, have an in-house marketing team. Over the past 10 years I’ve watched that change radically.

Thanks for this derailed response. If you're handling most of.the marketing side for yourself, what work are the traditional publishers still doing that you wouldn't get by going the self publishing route? I presume royalties are lower for you being trad published than they would be self published. Are you finding that the marketing and self promotion side is eating into your writing time more than you would like it to be?

They do all of the book design, distribution, editing, and there is a large amount of marketing they do doing behind-the-scenes. For example, they have connections with Barnes & Noble, and chains like that. A self published author could not get into Barnes & Noble. Or at least not easily. Another example: they have an influencer program that sends my book out to social media influencers on TikTok, Instagram, etc. That’s valuable. Also, working with an editor is valuable. It’s hard to find great freelance editors, although I’m sure they exist!
