Watched it. Super reasonable take to me tbh. Citizens should have legal right over what happens to their data and a general protective law in the states is overdue and could fix a bunch of issues. Ppl could still opt out to sell their data then.

It’s a reasonable take, I think the issue is enforcement. How can you ever be sure that the regs are being followed?

I see it more like a citizen right. So e.g. GDPR gives EU citizens super powers because we can just send emails to tech companies demanding a bunch of stuff and they‘re in for some wild fines if they don‘t comply. I used this right already a few times against dark UI patterns to have my data deleted.

GDPR is a well intentioned, but terribly designed system that will achieve one goal - entrenching big tech. Large companies will hire lawyers and find exceptions to hold onto data. e.g. Fintechs claim that they need to retain data for compliance. Small companies must bear the brunt of the costs
