Embargo against Cuba: Vote on draft resolution at the UN General Assembly, live on YouTube now. Isn't it ridiculous how the US sanctions and blockade against Cuba still exists? The rest of the world has wanted it to end for decades and the UN has voted to end it dozens of times but the US always vetos it. One more reason why the Security Council permanent members with veto power are crippling the UN and holding the global community back from making progress. https://www.youtube.com/live/ZYvBW1ka37M?feature=shared

The US having veto powers undermines the UN to the point of being useless. That’s not to say it shouldn’t exist but the powers must be removed or we will undoubtedly face global crisis

Veto power is always undemocratic, and should not exist at all but it exists in so many systems including in many EU procedures. I don't think anyone can say democracy and veto power is compatible with a straight face.

This is part of the reason I don’t believe in the idea of a presidential system—least of all its US variation which is so partisan and easy to capture as to render futile the whole process of liberal lawmaking.
