gm arteeests & mfers! and we now begin again — with monday ;) let’s start w a little start, a beginning — TWU “thisWaysUP” was my first collection in web 3. it’s funny to look back now bc there’s a good bit i’d much i’d change about how i created it, but it was really not only a learning experience, but i made some lifelong friends that day. i almost didn’t put the collection out i was so nervous. it was nov of 2021 when i created the collection & i didn’t mint until april of 22. one, i had to wait for manifolds collection extensions — it would have costs thousands bc it was 50 1/1s and two, bc i really stressed that first mint — it was set in stone, permanent. no one told me you could push an update. we live and we learn. i gifted the entire collection away anyhow and that moment was one of the most fun i’ve had in web 3 :)

I remember you sharing some of these before. They are nice! Are they digital or hand drawn? Is there a story behind the collection like for sad bunni3s? I minted my first works around the same time and yeah it was nerve wracking that you only get one chance to do it right! Mine was on Foundation so that was true!

sorry it took me a minute to respond! these are digitally drawn in illustrator and they do have a bit of a story...you can read a little bit here if you want to :) https://mirror.xyz/thompsonart.eth/JPWVDMc3QbJ6G_WiTZws6zPrpl4GBLoCbj1QkoaKVj4 right!? it was def a scary thing at first. got easier as you go, but at first -- terrifying! especially, bc it was drilled in that you only get one chance and you cannot make any mistakes! haha and i so remember when foundation was invite only! that same exact week that i minted -- was when they opened it up to eveyone! hahaha

That was a good read and fun to learn a little more about you and this project! Thanks for sharing! I didn't know you had twins! 💙 I minted on Foundation in February of that year so it was still invite-only then. My first couple of collections were there before I found Manifold and after that I never minted on Foundation again, though I would still list things there since Manifold didn't really have a marketplace (discoverability was terrible for the "Gallery" and "Claim" pages). Definitely a better experience controlling your contracts though! And being able to update metadata if you needed to!

thank you so much for taking the time to read it! really appreciate it, my friend — means a lot! 🤍 yep! twin boys :) they are amazing, but it can be quite hmmm a lot haha right?! why didn’t manifold ever come up w something better that ridiculous gallery? they had basically owned all the mints for some time w the personal contracts — was unfortunate — then they felt they needed to charge 🙄 after the fact. i still use them for eth mints but i try not to! i don’t think i have any art except maybe 1 piece — not on a manifold contract. i have some work on opensea…but it was never actually minted bc it was done via 1155 and once manifold came out i was like screw that… really, ty for taking the time to read it! 🤍 20 $RARE so much appreciated

I don’t mind that Manifold had to start adding a fee to mint/claim. They need to make money somehow, it is not an outrageous fee compared to the fees and commissions on any marketplace and it is not the artist who has to pay it, which is the way it should be since artists already shoulder a lot of the costs to mint and list (on regular marketplaces). They did it in the most artist-friendly way they could in comparison to the marketplaces which fleece artists with fees and commissions while not doing their part to adequately promote their work to collectors and in many cases don’t enforce royalties that would help artists make up for those fees. I was mad at Foundation for charging fees to mint and list for auction as well as encouraging you to also list with a buy now with fee too and take a 5% commission on top of that. That isn’t even counting how much gas cost to do all those transactions and they charged to cancel any of them as well plus the settlement fee to get your money after the sale! 😡
