Scheduled weekly reminder that weekends are slow around Farcaster, so if your engagement is down the next couple of days, that's why. You can either use the slowdown to step away from social for a bit, or you can use it to dig into some channels you don't usually visit and surface some new great content and make some new connections with the other weekenders.

I haven't been posting here much, but I do come and scroll through my feed and a few of my favorite channels frequently. Brain has just been focused on school and work projects, and the vibe of this place has changed so much the last few months. I hope it can shift back to the fun that it was before certain events shifted the trajectory of the place completely <3

Weekly AMA! It's exactly what it sounds like. Ask me anything. About content creation. About my weird life as a self-vowed hermit nun devoted to a made up deity. About going back to college to finish a bachelor's degree in middle age not for a career pivot, but for fun. About anything you've seen me cast about. Or really, about anything at all.

That topic *might* be too new for ChatGPT, I'm not sure how recent its training data is. Though it *could* do a search since it is enabled now. I definitely expect the U.S. to get more restrictive on what topics are allowed on social media platforms and AI, using the excuse that it's not the government restricting free speech, it's the corporations making decisions about their own platforms.

Go to the ChatGPT reddit and you'll see all sorts of topics that it tries to avoid and that require prompting tricks to get it to talk about. I've read all about Chinese history, ancient and modern, from multiple sources including in Chinese. They have tight control of their information sphere in an effort to prevent the U.S. propaganda machine from doing what it's done to the rest of the world. Not saying the tight control is just or right, but considering what the U.S. tends to do to countries it propagandizes, I can understand the impulse to lockdown.

I don't particularly like to probe the limits of a bot I'd rather maintain a decent relationship with lmfao There's topics you can't get ChatGPT to talk about, either, so no surprise a Chinese bot is sensitive about topics that the Western propaganda machine did a number on.

Chatting with the Chinese AI about Chinese philosophy - it blows ChatGPT away on the subject.

I'm currently working on a paper on the nature of time for my metaphysics class. First paper of the semester and brain is already mush. Cuz, like, I get time on an intuitive level, but putting that shit into words is a nightmare.

Dude, I've been learning Mandarin since 2023. It's not as hard as the American propaganda makes it seem. The characters are the hardest part, but they're logical. It's just there's no common root words like English has with the Romance and Germanic languages so vocab basically starts from scratch. RedNote is a delight. I give no fucks about data since Cambridge Analytica handed Trump the presidency in 2016. Our data has never been private, so might as well let China have it - they already do. And pissing off the U.S. government is delightful.

I *knew* of RedNote but hadn't joined because I just didn't have the brainspace for another social platform, until the curiosity about this whole thing tipped over. I'm not learning anything new myself cuz I've been studying the culture for awhile now and had even looked into visiting (it's not as expensive or difficult as you think!) I'd love to do a tour of temples someday! I've known the U.S. general public view of China is about 20 years out of date - especially in the last decade, they've been going hard on building infrastructure and technological development, and they've also been building infrastructure in other countries, especially in African countries, as part of their modern "silk road" project to boost global trade.

Sharing my observations about the influx of Americans to the Chinese app Rednote 🀣 I've been talking for a couple years about how China is *not* what American propaganda convinces us it is. They've done a LOT to recover from the damage done by the revolution while still keeping a focus on uplifting their people. It's just such a huge country that that takes time to do, so U.S. propaganda focuses on the most remote regions of the country to show conditions. It'd be like if we only showed Appalachian coal towns and migrant workers to share what life in America was like.

Accidentally went viral on Threads again... If only I could figure out how to do it on purpose more often on more platforms 🀣
