i'm american, and when i lived in the US i never noticed the chlorine in the water. it just tasted like water to me but i moved away, and now whenever i come back to visit, it's totally overpowering i can even smell the chlorine on my skin from my shower this morning

Same, every time I visit the US for a few weeks (especially the west coast?) my eczema comes back, I get more plaque between my front teeth, and of course water is always a chore to drink. All those things aren't an issue in Canada.

I remember learning that bees are attracted to the smell of chlorine, which totally makes sense to me now.

Your body would have to re-adapt to it or it like before. Change of environment does that.
