fascinating to see an OG farcaster trend, screenshot essays, rapidly emerge on X.

on FC, these initially surfaced due to (imo) a subpar threading experience and limited characters.

on X, these surface due to subpar external link experience despite superior threading experience and unlimited characters.

thoughts?

just my personal experience given i was never on X until 2021 and rarely saw screenshot essays appear there until recently

Screenshot essays have been on X for a long time now.  I don't think of them as a strictly FC trend at all

yes, but instagram is inherently an image-first platform where a screenshot essay as a shareable image is far superior to the UX of a long caption

whereas both X and FC are text-first platforms where screenshot essays are not the norm (esp when they're much longer than what would fit in a square image like OG IG)

first platform I noticed screenshot essays on was actually Instagram, with the "create" feature allowing a text-only post on stories 

people crave substance, but like a more casual representation than a perma-linked blog post

yes i didn’t join X until 2021 so only experienced post-covid twitter, i’m unfamiliar with trends dating beforehand

My gut says it's related to the recent algo changes that favor tiktok-like content, and thus media (images) in general
