I was devastated by the WNC floods last year. Seeing the LA fires, I intellectually feel a similar sadness. But emotionally, I feel more detached since I’m less connected with the land Perhaps we must viscerally feel the anguish of climate volatility before we can solve it. Ie. it may be a crisis of the heart, not the mind

climate volatility is a long-term problem that will take years, if ever, to reverse completely; we must focus on practical, tactical solutions to allow humans to better endure and survive this volatility. unfortunately, the environmentalists and the tactical problem solvers have long been at odds in LA.

Yeah I feel that tension too I worry that if we're too tactical, it will be kicking the can down the road But at the same time, how do you mass uproot people from urban areas like LA? You can't -- but these time horizons need to be blended Sadly, we're missing both sides of the barbell right now...

the last 250 years on this planet are an excellent example of using technology to overcome climate volatility, as well as reduce total death toll and damage from natural disasters. nature doesn't care about our survival, so we either lean to our ingenuity or die pretending we can do without it.
