ted life tip: if you want to use the internet in a way that is most likely to add to your overall wellbeing, approach it as a social *network* and NOT social *media*. the social network approach cares about replies, DCs, URL-to-IRL meetings, ongoing convos the social media approach cares about views, likes, followers

Love this. Imo a thing that can be confusing / tempting to people is seeing that the individuals who "win" at social media (get lots of views, follows, likes) are the ones who get the *best* options for social networking (meaningful connections). And it can be easy to get lost in the means while pursuing the end.

yes, a perennial temptation for humans. relates to my larger life hypothesis about the importance of finding people who are intrinsically motivated, not extrinsically motivated. have you ever been to an amazing dinner party and thought "wow, that was great. it must be bc they have so many followers on socials"? never.

Intrinsic matters most ❤️ The thing I'll say there's some truth to is: Having the followers/views may help you get on the radar of more interesting people, and hence get the invite to the circles you really want to be in (basically, followers = an addressable audience = distribution = a kind of power/relevance)
