candid thoughts (and warning) on BlackRock's Larry Fink's "endorsement" of crypto ETFs and tokenization. if you respond with genuine feedback, reactions, counterargument, etc. and continue the conversation, then i will gift you warps.

This is actually very worrisome and something that the crypto industry should think about it. The goal of the crypto industry is to give back the power to the people, not some centralized entity!

I'm generally all for reducing wealth inequality (which this probably won't help), but from a protocol security perspective I really don't see an issue. This is exactly what we've been designing for, nation state scale participants. I'm curious what threat model people are actually concerned about.

How does an ETF (tradfi-wrapped defi) lead to more tokenization (defi-wrapped tradfi)? It's the wrong direction. That said, I can see the case for why it creates more awareness, normalizes things, and then creates pull in the opposite direction.

I'm skeptical whenever someone's words affect market movements or narratives (and even more skeptical when market movements affect someone's words). So I don't think this is something to get excited about by any means, he's doing it in self-interest as you pointed out. 1/n

https://twitter.com/m_j_rossman/status/1745872019990704484 my doubt is that anything w/ PMF that also has privacy/CR will be abused as a black market ("show me incentives"). question remains, can institutions sybil/DCA into validator sets? probably yes. can they cut bargaining costs w/o capture? also yes.

Wait, isn’t the Blackstone ETF largely securitized BTC versus other tranches of crypto currency? I wonder if they’re buying offsets for all of the energy consumption required to mine bitcoin today. Is BTC today’s equivalent for the modern gold bugs? It appears to run against grain of stated DEI preferences.

This is nothing new. A valid concern. But not unexpected. Unfortunately, the entire world is optimized for max profits extraction. All industries, social media, pharma, even politics, relationship, etc. But it’s good to question motives. As they say: show me the incentive, I’ll show you the outcome.

It's fun now because our bags are pumping, but long term, I think this might not be the best move. This should be about taking the power away from these huge corporations and distributing it back to the people. The ETF, unfortunately, seems like we just gave so much power back. The rich will get richer at our expense
