They would lose 80-90% of their users. The internet became accustomed to free music a long time ago, now video content too. Even kids, aren't that much into shows/ films created by studios, they watch solo creators on YouTube more often. Artists have to adapt and monetize in a different way. Also, F the mainsteam

I don't think it will ever be like it used to be. There would be uproar about paying for all music again. I used to have to pick and choose in my youth what new CDs to buy and traded with friends. To be honest, it was good fun and built community and fandom when you didn't have the world of music at your fingertips.

But...it has allowed the discovery of music you would never have found, or genres that you wouldn't have gotten into. For some it is a huge detriment to the artist, but in some cases it's allowed discovery and fans that would have never have been. Arguments on both sides for sure.
